A self-described cat herder and Chief Community Ambassador, Sammy Rich has spent the last 13 years working to make the City of Rome a shining star of northwest Georgia. Sammy has served as Rome’s City Manager since July 1, 2014, having served as Rome’s assistant city manager the previous 8 years.

Sammy has worked in local and state government since 1998, previously holding the positions of Assistant County Manager for Floyd County, County Planner for Carroll County, and Urban Planning Engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation. Sammy holds both a B.S. in Geography & Planning and Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of West Georgia.

Sammy is involved in numerous professional organizations, including the Seven Hills Rotary Club and the Georgia City-County Manager’s Association where he currently serves on the board of directors. Additionally, Sammy is always willing to volunteer to help improve the community by participating with various nonprofit organizations such as the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia’s Celebrity Dance Challenge as well as the Historic Desoto Theatre Foundation’s An Evening on the Runway.
